I did a talk on for the IONIC Meetup Berlin . To goal was to show IONIC2 and Firebase Realtime DB and Storage integration. You can find the sample code and presentation here.

I have been working with IONIC 2 since the early betas and have delivered two projects. While I suffered quite a bit through the RC dent I am very pleased with ANGULAR 2 in general and IONIC 2 in specific. There was a steep learning curve at the beginning. Actually using typescript, ES6 and RX turned out to require some extra coding cycles. However, the resulting code is much cleaner and compact. If feel that I have become much more productive in the new environment. The only caveat is, that all the (pre-)compilation and abstraction layers slow down the development workflow a little. But tools are improving while we speak. Let’s be patient and wait for faster compilation, native ES6 support, hot reloading and other improvements…

The talk was well received and inspired a good discussion. It was great to hold a presentation in front of what was essentially a group of strangers again. I used to present in internal and external meetings on a daily basis and did quite a few lectures as well as public talks in front of large crowds such as Lotusphere in Orlando. However, since my departure from corporate two years ago, I did not do have any public appearances.
